Bank of England Maintains Interest Rates at 0.5%

The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee voted in its latest monthly meeting to maintain the base rate at 0.5% for another month. The base rate has now remained at a record low of 0.5% since March 2009.
In addition, the Committee also voted to maintain the size of the stock of asset purchases at £200bn. This has also remained constant since the last increase of £25bn in November 2009.
The next Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee meeting will take place on 10th May 2010 due to the timing of the General Election.
